  Current research and development projects at CNA include: Wave Powered Pumping of Seawater for Onshore Use and Electrical Generation in Burin, Petroleum Applications of Wireless Systems at Seal Cove, the Geospatial Research Facility in Corner Brook, the Manufacturing Technology Centre and the Agriculture Centre of Excellence. In addition, several research proposals from college faculty are being advanced for funding.

 
Wave Powered Pumping

Wave power is a viable source of alternate energy in coastal areas. Our Burin Campus spearheads this innovative project aiming at harnessing the ocean wave energy into onshore commercial applications.The technology is an outstanding achievement by a dedicated team of researchers, managers and financers.



Petroleum Applications of Wireless Systems

Petroleum Applications of Wireless Systems (PAWS) is an example of collaborative research. This multi million dollar initiative is jointly operated by three Atlantic Canadian Institutions, University of Cape Breton, College of the North Atlantic, University of New Brunswick, and aims a developing a fully automated wireless control system for oil and gas installations.


Geospatial Research

Geospatial Research Facility (GRF) at Corner Brook Campus is a multi million dollar research initiative that aims at a comprehensive assessment of terrestrial resources in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador using the most modern mapping, sensing and data collection techniques.


Manufacturing Technology Centre

The College of the North Atlantic’s Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is where the province’s manufacturers and entrepreneurs access our applied research and advanced technological capabilities. Working closely with industry, the MTC is a strong player in R&D of manufacturing technology in the province.

The Agriculture training and research centre is dedicated to supporting Newfoundland and Labrador's agriculture industry in its endeavor to develop and diversify, realize opportunities, and maximize the potential for long-term growth and sustainability.
