ATIPPA

The Newfoundland and Labrador Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA) ensures public bodies such as College of the North Atlantic (CNA) are accountable to the public and protects the individual's personal privacy by:

• giving the public a right of access to records;
• giving individuals a right of access to, and a right to request correction of, personal information about themselves;
• specifying limited exceptions to the right of access;
• preventing the unauthorized collection, use or disclosure of personal information by public bodies; and
• providing for an independent review of decisions made by public bodies under this Act.

CNA strives to assist individuals who wish to make requests under ATIPPA. Conscious of the Duty to Assist as outlined in the ATIPPA, our goal is to provide fair and accurate disclosure to individuals seeking information in a timely manner.

Access and Privacy Course for Employees of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

This online course was developed by the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Office of the Department of Justice. It is designed to give employees an overview of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act. It also contains scenarios and case studies around common work situations in which we need to be mindful of Access and Privacy Issues. The course will take about 2 hours to complete.
