This two-year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technician (AMET) program offers training in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of aircraft and aircraft components. Topics include the role of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer as being responsible for aviation safety and airworthiness. Courses cover all aspects of aircraft maintenance for both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft and include safety practices, ground handling, inspection techniques, power plant, structural repair, aircraft systems, and avionics. Upon completion of the two-year program students are awarded an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technician diploma.
This program is accredited by Transport Canada as meeting all the training requirements for the issuance of an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s license in both categories M1/M2 and E. Plus graduates are granted 21 months experience credit towards the 48 month requirement for the license. Transport Canada accredited training is also accepted in the United States as meeting the training requirement for the A&P License.
College of the North Atlantic, Gander campus is a part of the Lufthansa Technical Training network of approved schools. Commencing in 2013 an optional semester will be available that will allow graduates of the AMET program to carry on and also meet the training requirements for the issuance of a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Aircraft Maintenance License. This standard is currently recognized in 33 countries in Europe.
There is also a Memorandum of Understanding in place which enables graduates to complete one additional year of studies at the Institute of Technology in Carlow, Ireland and earn an undergraduate degree in Aircraft Systems Maintenance.
Essentially, a student can earn two diplomas and a degree, plus meet the mandated training requirements for Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Professionals in 35 countries – in just three years!
