Hunter/Fisher Guide Training Program * NEW * ABE and Office Administration Workplace Health & Safety Representative A worker health and safety representative is required in workplaces where less than 10 workers are employed. The employer must ensure that a worker, not connected with management is designated as the worker health and safety representative. The main role of the worker health and safety representative is to monitor the health, safety and welfare of workers employed at the workplace. Occupational Health & Safety Committee An occupational health and safety committee is an advisory group made up of representatives from management and workers. The committee provides a forum for communication between the employer and the workers to address health and safety concerns in the workplace. Committees identify and evaluate concerns, make recommendations for corrective action and promote health and safety in the workplace. Committees are a legislated requirement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations These courses are designed to make employers and employees aware of the rights, responsibilities, and legislation pertaining to the establishment and maintenance of a safe workplace environment. St. John Ambulance Emergency/Standard First Aid and CPR These courses are designed to give participants the ability to recognize situations requiring emergency action and to make the appropriate decisions concerning first aid. Traffic Control Person This workshop is intended to provide participants with the knowledge necessary to be responsible workers in the field of traffic control. They will learn traffic control procedures, regulations related to the control and movement of traffic in and around construction sites, and the equipment and training needed to perform their duties. WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Handling System) This course is designed to give participants the knowledge and skills necessary to define WHMIS, examine hazard identification and ingredient disclosure, explain labelling and other forms of warning, and introduce materials safety data sheets (MSDS) Personal Fall Protection This workshop is intended to educate participants on fall protection practices and procedures. Participants are introduced to situations where there is or may be a danger of workers falling. Fall protection is required when employees are working at heights of 3.05 meters (10 feet) or more over the nearest safe surface. The purpose of this training is to ensure that students understand fall protection safety principles and how they apply to real work environments. At Scaffolding Awareness This course covers the safe erecting, use, inspection, modification and dismantling of supported base scaffolds. This is a basic course for personnel with job requirements to safely and securely erect, use and dismantle scaffolding. This course will address safe scaffolding practices and procedures when working in job situations requiring no more than a maximum scaffolding height of 6 meters. Introduction to Trenching Hazards This course will address the Occupational Health & Safety trenching and excavation requirements. The training will enable participants to recognize hazards associated with trenching and excavation and the protective measures and equipment required prior to entering a trench and excavation. Powerline Hazards The Power Line Hazards Training Course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to prevent injury and death caused by contact with power lines and the emergency response to contact if it occurs. This course teaches participants how to insert thrums into traditional knitted products such as mittens, socks, etc., to create an extra layer of warmth.
"Thrum" originally referred to the short lengths of waste yarn leftover after woven cloth was cut off the loom. In the spirit of necessary thriftiness, craftspeople would find a variety of uses for these thrums--stuffing pillows and mattresses, and after a while, knitting them into mittens and hats to provide an extra layer of warmth.
