Jim Connors will have his short film Fish Fatale featured in several international festivals over the next few months. The Digital Animation graduate is currently in the running for the online competition of the Kinofest International Digital Film Festival in Romania.

College of the North Atlantic (CNA) graduate Jim Connors is making waves on the international level. The 21-year-old Goulds resident will have his short film, Fish Fatale, screened at two upcoming international festivals, showcased at a third in 2016, and is currently also in the running for an online competition.

The Digital Animation graduate is one of 16 people featured in the online Micromovie category as part of the Kinofest International Digital Film Festival in Romania. The competition winner will be decided by voter response, which is open to the public until Sept. 27.

Fish Fatale will also be shown on Sept. 22 as part of the International Animation Festival, Anima Syros, held on the island of Syros in Greece. The festival, which includes animation movie screenings, special tributes, a professional forum and workshops for students, is considered one of the 20 most important animation festivals in the world.

Oct. 5-10 will see Connors’ film screened during the 7th International Animated Film Festival - TOFUZI 2015 in Batumi, Georgia. It was selected for screening under the Best Student Film Category. In February 2016, the video will be shown at Animac, the International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia which is held in Lleida, Spain. The non-competitive exhibition is designed exclusively for animators and features the best animation from all over the world.

Connors says it took nearly six months to create the one-minute, 40-second video about a diver who meets a mermaid while exploring the depths of the ocean.

“I spent so many hours on it that you lose track,” Connors said. “It was eight hours a day for a few months.”

The reel was completed in June of this year as his final project for the Digital Animation program at CNA's Bay St. George campus, and Connors says it’s great to have it featured in so many festivals.

“It feels pretty good. I’m proud of the film because I put a lot of work into it. It’s a good pat on the back since you work hard to get it accepted somewhere.”
