STEPHENVILLE – Want your kids to do something fun and educational this summer? College of the North Atlantic campuses across the province are offering Summer Day Camps for children ages 9-12 from July 4 to August 12 this year.

There will be six themed, one-week camps over this six-week period, and children can sign up for any number of camps that interest them – participate in just one, or all six! The camps run Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and cost $140 +HST per camp. Campers are required to pack their own lunches and snacks. Registration deadline is Monday, June 13.

Under the guidance of our camp leaders, campers will participate in the theme of the week through a variety of games, field trips, crafts, and sporting events. The themes and each campus vary, but some of the themes for the camps include Science Week, Superhero Week, Around the World Week, Olympics Week, Nature Week, Halloween Week, and more!

The Summer Camp schedule for each campus, as well as contact information and camp registration forms are available on the college’s website – www.cna.nl.ca/summer-camp or by clicking the Summer Camp icon on the main events calendar page.

During Science Week, campers will explore the world of nature and science with activities, projects and experiments that investigate the world around us. They could take part in recycling activities and games, learn about respecting nature, make an exploding volcano, conduct an archaeological dig, visit the insectarium, and go on a geo caching adventure.

Around the World week is an exciting around the world adventure with fun activities in each destination. Stop in Mexico and make your own Maraca, then fly to France to decorate pastries and create a replica of the Eiffel Tower. Visit China to paint lanterns, head to Egypt and dress like a Mummy, and then end the week down-under with an Australian Safari.

There is a superhero inside all of us, we just need the courage to put on the cape. Campers will start Superhero week by creating their very own superhero name and powers. Enjoy a week of battling villains, perfecting your X-Ray vision, practicing your superhero skills in a challenging obstacle course, and using your Spidey senses. Graduate from the Superhero Training Academy with honors.

Home is where the heart is, but do you know the history of your community? Explore your Community Week will see campers, visit local museums and historic sites in their communities to learn the stories of their ancestors. Find the best walking trails, parks, and restaurants to share with your friends and family.

Campers get moving with the beat during Moves and Grooves Week! Groove to your favourite tunes while doing Zumba classes, obstacle courses, sports tournaments and visits to the park. By the week’s end, you’ll be light on your feet with a whole new repertoire of songs as the soundtrack to your summer holidays.

Put down the remote and explore the great outdoors during Nature Week. Learn about the animals that live in your community, what they eat and what eats them!  Enjoy nature walks, bird sightings, field trips, crafts, interactive team games and more.

Santa Claus is comes to town early during Christmas in July Week!  Participate in all your favourite Christmas traditions: Decorate a Christmas tree with handmade ornaments, snack on Ginger Bread cookies and hot chocolate, while watching your favourite Christmas movie. Santa enjoys the sun and warm weather too, and maybe he’ll drop by for a visit!

Trick or Treat! Dress up as your favourite ghoul, goblin, superstar, sports athlete or villain during Halloween Week. You’ll be ready for Halloween with new crafts and decorations.  Scavenger hunts, ghost stories, and field trips will highlight your week, while survival skills sessions will teach you the art of living off the land.  Will you be prepared at the zombie apocalypse?

Bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to your hometown during Olympics Week! Relay races, soccer games, dodgeball, basketball, swimming, a pizza party and much more. Enjoy the summer Olympics while you learn about team spirit, cooperation and friendship. Whether you’re playing for fun, or going for gold, this week is sure to be filled with fun and new friends.
