One of the key instructors in the Adventure Tourism program at the Corner Brook Campus of the College of the North Atlantic, Gene teaches Marine Biology, Environmental Ethics, Sea Kayaking, Water Safety, and X-Country Skiing to students that come from as far away as Germany, to take advantage of a program that offers adventure in some of the most magnificent wilderness in Canada. Gene’s teaching duties also include leading students on sea kayaking and x-country excursions to remote areas of the province.
Prior to his current assignment as an Instructor in the Adventure Tourism Program at the College of the North Atlantic he attended the University of Illinois under a Graduate Teaching Assistantship, where he graduated with a Masters in Science in Outdoor/Environmental Education. During this time he worked as an outdoor activity guide for the university.
Gene is a certified CRCA(Canadian Recreation Canoeing Association) Canoeing Instructor, a CRCA Sea Kayaking Instructor and a certified CANSI(Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors).

Jeff Martin

Jeff comes to us from Southern New Brunswick, where he co-owns a multi-adventure tourism business that offers sea kayaking, hiking and biking on the beautiful Bay of Fundy.
Jeff is one of the core Adventure Tourism Instructors at the Corner Brook Campus and has been teaching in the program since 2004. Jeff teaches Outdoor Leadership, Wilderness Survival, Heritage Interpretation and Legal Liability & Risk Management.
In addition to his classroom duties, you can find Jeff spending much of his time exploring Newfoundland’s vast and rugged wilderness with his students instructing field navigation, backpacking, canoeing, sea kayaking and backcountry and telemark skiing.

Bill Buggie
BSc , University of New Brunswick

Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Forest Engineering from the
University of New Brunswick in 1981. Since 2004, he has been a Board Member on the
Canadian Forestry Accreditation Board responsible to review and evaluate baccalaureate
degree programs in forestry. Buggie is a Registered Professional Forester in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
His courses include Timber Harvesting, Forest Surveying, Environmental
Citizenship, Forest Soils, Wood Products, and Integrated Resource Management. Before
joining the College in 1992, he was employed with the provincial Newfoundland Forest
Service, Forest Products and Development Division as a Junior and then Senior Forest
Engineer involved in various field trials with numerous companies and contractors
working with the development of woodchip fuel chippers and wide tired forwarders. Bill
joined the Forest Products Division in 1981.

Glen Knee

Glen worked with the Alberta Forest Service for several years and returned home to work with the Newfoundland Forest Service. Shortly after, Glen began his teaching career with The Forestry program with the college. Glen’s areas of expertise include Dendrology, Forest Ecology, Silviculture, Hydrology and Forest Insects and Disease.
Glen has a passion for the outdoors and when he is not leading a field trip for students he can be found enjoying the great outdoors either hunting, fishing or hiking.

Alan has been with the Corner Brook campus of the College of the North Atlantic since 1993. A Civil engineer by training, Alan instructed courses in water treatment, wastewater treatment, solid waste management, air pollution, project management and engineering graphics.
Alan is actively involved in applied research with the college. Most of Alan’s research is in the areas of hydrology and wastewater treatment and he has consulted with many local engineering firms and government departments in these areas. He has worked internationally in Jamaica and Barbados in the wastewater sector.

Marie joined the College in 1999 after graduating from the Environmental Technology Program at the Corner Brook Campus – The College of the North Atlantic.
During her time with the College she has completed a Bachelor of Engineering Technology – Environmental Studies Degree Program through distance education at Cape Breton University.
As Instructional Assistant Marie works closely with students enrolled in both the Environmental Technology and Engineering Programs. She assists both the instructor and the
student body in the preparation and delivery of various chemistry courses as well as other environmental related courses. |

Lana White
B.Sc.H.Ec., B.Ed., M.Ed.

Lana is the core instructor for the Hospitality Tourism Management Program at the Prince Philip Drive campus and has been facilitating the program since 2003. Lana has a B.Sc.H.Ec. (distinction), a B.Ed. (Science Methods) and a M.Ed. in Post-Secondary Studies (with a 1st year fellowship).
Lana has varied career experiences from working as s a Regional Manager/Account Executive with a marketing company; working as an Event Coordinator and Workshop Coordinator with the Marine Institute; being contracted by DFO as a Logistics Coordinator; and sharing the responsibility of running a small restaurant.
Lana enjoys travelling and has a penchant for sun destinations. She is an active participant on various social and work related committees. Lana recently discovered her Mi’kmaq heritage and is delighted to be counted among the founding member of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band (Spring 2010). |

June E. Alton-Hynes

June joined the college in 1984 as an instructor at Bay St. George campus and has 25 years experience teaching in tourism in the Travel Counsellor and now the Hospitality Tourism Management program. She is originally from Ontario where she worked in the travel trade as a travel agency manager.
June teaches Customer Service, Tourism Destinations, Human Resource Management, Tour Guiding, Bar and Beverage Operations, Oral Communications and many of the Professional Certifications that the HTM students must complete.
June graduated from Westervelt Travel Institute with a diploma in Travel and Tourism. June is certified by the CTHRC under emerit as a Tourism Trainer and also by the Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors as a CTC (Certified Travel Counsellor). June has also completed numerous other professional tourism certifications. |

Donna R. Pippy

Donna joined the Bay St.George Campus as an instructor in 1980 and has 29 years experience teaching in the Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Hospitality Tourism Management programs. Prior to joining the CNA faculty she worked as a food service manager, and as a marketing and public relations manager.
Donna teaches Dining Room Operations, Food and Beverage Management, Hospitality Supervision, Rooms Division Systems, Hospitality Law, Events Management, Facilities Management, and NL Interpretation.
Donna graduated from College of Trades & Technology (now CNA) with a diploma in
Food Management Technology. Donna has a red seal certification as a journey person cook, is certified by the CTHRC as an emerit Tourism Trainer, and has numerous other professional certifications. |

Leslie Daye
BSc (Biology), Arts (Psychology/French),
BEd from Memorial University.

Leslie joined the College in 1995 as an academic biology instructor for the School of Natural resources. She teaches in all four programs at the Corner Brook Campus. Some of her courses include general biology, fish and wildlife biology, freshwater and boreal ecology, ornithology and microbiology.
Previously, Leslie taught at the central and St. John’s campuses of the college and worked as a Research Assistant at Memorial University in St. John’s.

Arlene Sedlickas |
Arlene joined the College in December 1986 as an Academic Communications instructor for Trades and Technology at the Happy Valley Campus. In September 2002 she moved to the Corner Brook Campus and currently teaches in the Natural Resources Programs. Some of her courses include Technical Report Writing 1& 2, Human Relations, and Communication Skills 1 & 2. |
