Salary Information

CG25 - $24.26 - $26.71 per hour. 

College of the North Atlantic's Happy Valley-Goose Bay Campus is currently seeking applications from qualified individuals to fill short-term staffing requirements that may arise from sick leave, vacation leave, or an increase in operational demands. This position would be casual in nature; hours will vary; and the successful candidate must be available on short notice for day, evening and/or weekend shifts. Candidates must be flexible in order to meet operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals for the cafeteria, student residence and special functions at the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Campus.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of cooking equipment, following safe operating procedures.
  • Prepare, handle and store food in compliance with food safety regulations and sanitation guidelines.
  • Clean and sanitize all work areas, utensils, and equipment on a regular schedule.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of food, beverages, and supplies, assist in ordering, and ensure minimal waste through effective stock rotation and portion control.
  • Collaborate with the supervisor to plan daily or weekly cafeteria specials.
  • Assist in catering and special events on campus, which may include menu planning and food preparation.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen.

Screening Criteria

  • One-year Certificate in Commercial Cooking, or related (equivalencies to be considered).
  • Relevant industry experience in food preparation and service.

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen operations, including food preparation and cooking methods.
  • Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of commercial cooking equipment.
  • Knowledge of food safety principles and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to work as a member of a food service team.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines during peak service times.
  • Exchange information effectively. 
  • Professionalism.

Conditions of Offer

  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided. 
  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position. 

Conditions of Acceptance

  • This position may require lifting and moving large objects including bulk food and kitchen equipment; standing for long periods throughout a typical shift; and the use of a variety of kitchen equipment requiring controlled movements.
