Duties and Responsibilities
Working in both shop and field settings, the Heavy Equipment Technician:
- Performs skilled work diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues on light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnoses, services, repairs, and maintains a range of complex vehicle systems, including engine, electrical, hydraulic, steering, suspension, and braking systems.
- Completes routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and inspections on vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains accurate records of inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance using established systems to ensure accountability and effective equipment tracking.
- Manages parts and equipment inventory by monitoring stock levels, identifying shortages, and ordering and organizing supplies as needed.
- Uses diagnostic tools, manuals, and computer systems to troubleshoot and complete repairs accurately and efficiently.
- Follows institutional policies, manufacturer specifications, and regulations while maintaining a commitment to ongoing learning and skill development.
- Performs other related duties as required to support the efficient operation of the garage.
Screening Criteria
- Certification as a Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician OR Certification as a Red Seal Journeyperson Truck and Transport Mechanic.
- Experience working with the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

- Knowledge of mechanical systems and practices related to the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

Conditions of Offer
- When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.

- Proof of a valid driver's license.
Conditions of Acceptance
- Occasional physical demands include crawling under vehicles, climbing on ladders, bending, stretching, twisting while working in confined spaces, standing or kneeling on cement floors, lifting and/or moving heavy objects such as tires, rims, brake drums, etc.
- Constantly required to lift or move objects less than 10 lbs. Regularly required to lift or move objects 10 to 25 lbs. Regularly required to lift or move objects 25 to 50 lbs and lifting or moving objects over 50 lbs is required on a regular basis.
