Co-operative Education is a form of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) that alternates academic semesters with paid, program relevant work experience. Depending on the program, Co-op students will participate in 1-3 work term that are usually 12-16 weeks in length. Students enrolled in a co-operative education program will be assigned a Co-op Coordinator who will assist and provide support in the development, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of work term opportunities for academically eligible students. The Co-op Coordinator assist students in work term search efforts however, the ultimate responsibility of securing a work term rests with the Co-op student. Co-op students must participate in non-academic work-term preparation courses that will help prepare them by providing career preparation and employment advice.  Co-op students must participate in the Co-op competition process, do the necessary networking, and conduct a personal job search that will lead to Co-op employment. Students in Co-op programs are expected to visit the Co-op Office on their campus to meet regularly with their Co-op Coordinator.
 
Co-op is not just an academic requirement of the program. It is a partnership between the student, the College and the employer which allows students to identify and actively make progress on their own Learning Objectives by developing an action plan that they use to guide them throughout their work term(s) and their program.  Co-op starts on the first day of your program. It is important for students to start thinking about what their goals will be during their program relevant work integrated learning experience.
