Heather Ward

Director of the Reality Capture and Digitization Technology Access Centre (RCD TAC)

Heather has 12+ years of experience as environmental consultant and previously worked in the private sector as a Senior GIS/Remote Sensing specialist and Environmental Scientist. Throughout her career, Heather has worked extensively with satellite, aerial, and drone imagery (multi-spectral and hyperspectral), as well as LiDAR, SoNAR and Radar technologies. She has an extensive background in, and knowledge of, spatial analysis, spatial data visualization, and geo-statistics.

She has a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc.) and Master of Science degree (MSc.), both in Geography, from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her thesis research in Remote Sensing investigated the application of satellite derived RaDAR data for tree-line migration monitoring in Northern environments.

Heather’s research interests are broad, but mainly relate to the use of GIS, Remote Sensing, and Reality Capture technologies for environmental monitoring, planning and remediation applications. She has worked across multiple sectors, and in her current role at CNA, aims to work with industry and community partners to assist them with technology adoption and/or advancement to accelerate growth.
