ST. JOHN’S, NL – The Fry Family Foundation again demonstrated its unwavering support to students of College of the North Atlantic (CNA) on Tuesday, Sept. 27, announcing $595,000 for student scholarships over the next seven years.

This amount is in addition to the more than $400,000 already donated to CNA by the Foundation during the past decade, bringing the total commitment from the Fry Family to nearly $1 million to date. Over 160 students have benefited from the generosity of the Foundation thus far, and with this most recent announcement an additional 221 students will receive awards and scholarships over the next seven years.

The Fry Family Foundation contributes to building stronger communities in this province by supporting health, social causes, and the arts, and by investing in the development of the future talent of Newfoundland and Labrador through numerous scholarships. The foundation recently awarded its 1,000th scholarship in the province, which was for four years of post-secondary education to a student at the Froude Avenue Community Centre.

“The reason the Fry Family Foundation continues to support the College of the North Atlantic is because we believe CNA is a world-class education organization. We are very proud of the students we have met and believe many of them will be our future leaders,” said Fry Family Foundation co-founder Darryl Fry.

“So we are pleased to be able to grow our scholarship program at the College of North Atlantic as we commit for an additional seven years.”

The new funding, which begins this year, will deliver $85,000 annually in a variety of scholarship and apprenticeship awards. With the establishment of new scholarships for Business and Digital Filmmaking students, the Fry Family Foundation will award 33 scholarships each year.

Interim college President and CEO Bob Gardiner says in the past 10 years since CNA students started receiving the generous support of the Fry Family Foundation, the impact has been significant in reaching students in CNA’s 17 campuses, crossing many programs and removing barriers for academic success.

“We are so thankful to the Fry Family Foundation for their partnership with us at College of the North Atlantic,” President Gardiner said. “Their generosity and support through scholarships and awards is making a significant difference in the lives of our students. ‎We look forward to their continued support and working together for the benefit of our students.”

This commitment to College of the North Atlantic is part of a $1 million scholarship commitment over the next seven years to students of Newfoundland and Labrador that attend Memorial University, Marine Institute, the five St. John’s Community Centre organizations, as well as the College of the North Atlantic.
