STEPHENVILLE, NL – Have you ever dreamed of acting as a career or even as a hobby? How about owning a professional actor’s reel and a DVD copy of a film featuring you – all for free?

College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Digital Filmmaking first-year students can help make this dream a reality.

There will be a general casting call for performers of all age groups Saturday, Feb. 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Stephenville at the Bay St. George campus Lecture Theatre of the DSB Fowlow Building.

Those selected will be featured in future student film projects, and while experience is an asset, it isn’t required. The casting call is an opportunity for students, professionals and hobbyists looking to showcase their talents or gain experience for career portfolios.

Digital Filmmaking is a two-year, six-semester program that focuses on meticulous hands-on training. Students work to produce, direct, and create films individually, and in groups, with industry standard equipment to learn professional techniques in various aspects of the filmmaking process.

Instructor Peter Buckle said, “As a part of the two-year program, students produce six individual films and two group films in the intersession. We are always looking for actors for specific roles and projects. This casting call is general to ensure we connect with actors of all age groups.”

This casting call aims to reach out to the community, which Buckle says has been strongly supportive, for a broader base of participants, such as performers from drama clubs, Stephenville Theatre Festival, as well as the Grenfell Theatre Program in Corner Brook.

“We hear a lot of times that the community wants Digital Filmmaking to flourish, giving an opportunity to local artists.”

If you are unable to attend the audition, there are other ways to participate. Hopefuls are invited to prepare a monologue and submit a video audition to peter.buckle@cna.nl.ca.
