As technology advances and skilled trades continue to drive economic growth, the demand for highly trained Industrial Mechanics has never been greater.

 

The College of the North Atlantic (CNA) is inviting experienced, detail-oriented Industrial Mechanics (Millwrights) to join our instructional team and help prepare students for success in one of Canada's most versatile and respected Red Seal trades.

The Opportunity: What You'll Do

 

As an Instructor in CNA's Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) program, you'll play a pivotal role in training future journeypersons to install, maintain, and repair the machinery and mechanical systems that drive modern industry. You'll bring your real-world experience to the classroom and shop floor, connecting theory to practice through engaging demonstrations, applied learning, and mentorship.

 

You will:

  • Deliver hands-on and theoretical instruction in areas such as mechanical maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, and precision alignment.
  • Teach students how to:
  • Read and interpret diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Operate rigging equipment and dollies to move heavy machinery.
  • Fit, align, attach, and connect bearings, gears, shafts, motors, couplings, and belts.
  • Test, align, and adjust mechanical systems.
  • Perform predictive and operational maintenance, including vibration analysis.
  • Service and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and programmable logic control (PLC) systems.
  • Perform tack welds and basic fabrication work.
  • Emphasize safety, precision, and teamwork by leading students through mechanical safety procedures such as lockout/tagout, rigging, and lifting techniques essential to the millwright trade.
  • Guide students through troubleshooting and problem-solving activities that mirror real industrial challenges.
  • Use your real-world experience to connect course content to field applications, ensuring graduates are confident and job-ready.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and industry advisors to keep curriculum aligned with current technologies, safety standards, and industry regulations.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment that reflects the professionalism, safety culture, and respect essential to the trade.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with emerging tools, equipment, and training standards.
  • This is a campus-based, in-person position located at CNA's Labrador West campus.

Screening Criteria

  • Interprovincial Journeyperson Certification in Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).
  • 6 years combined apprenticeship and recent related trade specific industry experience.

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)Trade.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and industrial safety practices, including lockout/tagout, rigging, confined space entry, and fall protection.
  • Proficiency with trade-related technologies and equipment. 
  • Organizational and time management skills. 
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to guide students through technical challenges and industry-relevant scenarios. 
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and engage students by using real-life examples to enhance understanding. 
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with students, faculty and staff. 
  • Commitment to teaching while fostering and delivering a positive and safe learning environment for all students.

Conditions of Offer

  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided. 
  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position. 
    • Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.
