Salary Information

CG33 - $57,093.40 - $63,499.80 per annum.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a full-time equivalent position, divided between two part-time roles on separate research projects funded by the Future Skills Centre: the Welcoming Communities Project and the Employer-Led Workforce Development Pilot Project.

  • The Public Relations Specialist plays a key role in advancing the communications efforts of the NL Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC) with College of the North Atlantic.
  • Strategic communications planning: develop, implement, and evaluate communications strategies and plans specific to the two Future Skills Centre (FSC) projects; and align communications initiatives with overall project goals, timelines and key milestones.
  • Content development and media relations: draft, edit and distribute press releases, media advisories, project announcements, and feature stories; creating talking points, key messages and FAQs for media or public engagements; and build and maintain a media list.
  • Event planning and virtual engagement: coordinate event logistics including technology set-up, invitations, registration, promotion and post-event follow up; and support planning and promotion of webinars, virtual events, and stakeholder meetings related to NLWIC projects.
  • Social media and website management: manage NLWIC’s social media platforms; maintain and update the NLWIC website with current project information, news updates, and event postings; analyze social media and website metrics to optimize performance; and respond to online inquiries and comments.
  • Internal communications and team support: collaborate closely with the Project Teams and broader NLWIC team to ensure internal alignment on messaging; and participate in regular team meetings and contribute to project planning discussions.
  • Reporting and administrative support: track communication activities, timelines, deliverables, and prepare regular reports for project funders and internal use; and maintain organized files and records of communications materials and project documentation.
  • Other duties: perform additional related duties consistent with the classification and nature of the position, as assigned by the Director.
     

 

Screening Criteria

  • Diploma in Public Relations, Communications and/or Journalism (equivalencies will be considered).
  • Recent, relevant experience in similar public relations, communications, or media-focused roles.

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of strategic communications and content development.
  • Knowledge of social media including platforms and content management.
  • Knowledge of diverse software programs and online meeting technologies.
  • Ability to plan and organize events.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exchange information effectively.
  • Organization/time management skills.
  • Professionalism.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
