Salary Information
Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, based on the candidate's education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Industry Innovation (or designate), the Faculty Researcher will:
- Lead the design and implementation of applied research and development project using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques, with a focus on delivering practical solutions across diverse industry sectors.
- Collect, process, and analyze complex datasets using data science tools and ML techniques, with applications in areas such as natural resources, reality capture, and health; and leverage advanced tools to extract insights and rive innovation across disciplines.
- Manage all stages of research projects – from identifying research questions to final delivery; develop comprehensive project plans with clear goals, methods, resources, and timelines; and oversee research activities, monitor progress, ensure quality, manage budgets, and maintain ongoing collaboration with partners, colleagues, and funders.
- Convert research findings into practical insights and knowledge outputs, such as publications and technical documentation; actively present at academic conferences, workshops, and seminars; and collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate the application of research into real-world practice.
- Mentor and guide students and interns by offering technical expertise, supporting their research skill development and cultivating a collaborative and innovative learning environment.
- Stay current with emerging trends in AI and ML; actively pursue professional development; and contribute to advancing applied research initiatives at the College.
- Additional research-related tasks as needed to support the project and College goals.
Screening Criteria
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related discipline (equivalencies will be considered).
- Demonstrated recent and relevant experience in industry and/or applied research environments.
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques and their applications.
- Knowledge of research methodologies.
- Knowledge of data science tools and programming language such as Python, or similar.
- Ability to lead research projects.
- Ability to foster a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive research environment.
- Ability to mentor and guide students and interns.
- Ability to communicate, discuss and explain research ideas and results clearly to both expert and non-expert audiences.
- Project management skills.
- Organizational and time management skills including the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

- Willing to accept overnight travel (occasional) within Canada.
