Salary Information

CG29 - $50,250.20 - $55,819.40 per annum.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical services and operational support to the faculty of the Prince Philip Drive Campus' Health Sciences department. 
  • Medical and analytical laboratory work in an assigned area including preparing, setting up, and dismantling lab sessions.
  • Preparing chemical solutions, reagents, and plated/tube media.
  • Sub culturing of microorganisms.
  • Preparing control cassettes; preparing slides; running experiments and/or test procedures, reporting the results and providing answer keys to faculty. 
  • Maintaining an inventory of general supplies, chemicals, and microorganisms.
  • Safe storage of chemicals.
  • Maintaining proper chemical and biological waste disposal.
  • Tracking the receipt and distribution of materials.
  • Autoclaving instruments.
  • Calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.
  • Running quality control.
  • Performing safety and quality checks of all laboratories in the department.
  • Collecting, accessioning, and transporting specimens from clinical sites. 
  • Other related duties will be required. 

Screening Criteria

  • Registered Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT).
  • Recent and relevant work experience in the medical laboratory sciences field.

Assessment Criteria

  • Demonstrates understanding of core laboratory disciplines.
  • Proficiency in the operation of a range of medical laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance protocols and health and safety practices in laboratory environments.
  • Ability to exchange information effectively.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Professionalism.

Conditions of Offer

  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided. 
  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position. 
  • Must be eligible for, and have, an active membership in the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and a current active License with Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals (NLCHP).
