Salary Information

CG33 - $57,093.40 - $63,499.80 per annum

Duties and Responsibilities

The Departmental Program Coordinator supports and coordinates College of the North Atlantic's biweekly payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to collective agreements, legislation, and institutional policies.

  • Payroll operations and system expertise: process and manage biweekly payroll for faculty, staff, and students accurately and on schedule using PeopleSoft; verify and correct payroll data and timesheets; resolve payroll issues and inquiries; maintain data integrity; and prepare year-end reports, including T4s and manual adjustments as required.
  • Program coordination and advisory services: prepare payroll analyses and reports for management; advise staff on payroll matters; research and recommend best practices; respond to information requests; maintain financial records; and support departmental planning.
  • Records and data management: maintain confidential payroll records and manage records classification systems; and ensure accuracy and integrity of payroll data in compliance with College policies and legislative requirements.
  • Policy and compliance: interpret and apply collective agreements, compensation policies, and relevant legislation; and ensure payroll practices comply with federal and provincial regulations as well as CNA policies.
  • Team leadership: supervise and support payroll staff by assigning and reviewing work, providing training, and promoting professional development within a positive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the efficient operation of payroll functions.

Screening Criteria

  • Degree in Business (Accounting focus), or related field (equivalencies will be considered).
  • Experience working in a complex payroll environment.
  • National Payroll Institute Certificate (asset).

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of payroll and compensation and benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of interpreting and applying collective agreements and payroll policies.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft (asset).
  • Ability to analyze and resolve payroll process issues.
  • Commitment to client-service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to exchange information effectively.
  • Professionalism.
  • Relationship building skills.
