Salary Information
Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement based on the candidate's education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The incumbent will facilitate learning to students in the areas of Grip, Lighting and Rigging as part of the TV and Film program.
- The Instructor will be the subject matter expert in Technical Production with a specialty in Grip, Lighting and Rigging and will incorporate their own teaching style to existing course outlines while meeting the learning objectives of the course material; work with other faculty members to ensure a coordinated and consistent teaching approach; prepare and implement various instructional strategies, techniques, and learning modules using an approved course map to achieve specified learning outcomes; and utilize and advocate for the use of technology to advance teaching and learning.
- The Instructor will establish student performance objectives and evaluation methods; administer various assessments; meet with students regularly to gauge and evaluate progress; set a professional example and communicate effectively at a level appropriate to the ability of students and provide an emotionally safe learning environment that is conducive to learning.
- The Instructor will identify and resolve problem areas in learning; provide academic advising to students; participate in professional development activities, maintain currency, and strive for excellence in instructional practices in the tv and film production and post-production creation industry; and actively participate in and contribute to program review activities to ensure the program is of the highest standard.
- Other related duties consistent with providing and maintaining quality student-centered instruction will be required.
Screening Criteria
- Bachelor of Film and Television or related with specialization in area of instruction plus 5 years recent, relevant industry experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Equivalencies considered: Diploma in Film and Television Production or equivalent from an accredited institution with 7 years recent, relevant industry experience, or certificate in TV & Film Production or equivalent from an accredited institution with 8 years recent, relevant industry experience, or in the absence of a related parchment of any sort, equivalencies must include 10 years recent, relevant industry experience.
- B.Ed. (Secondary/Post-Secondary). Teaching experience at the post-secondary level (assets).
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of current relevant grip, lighting and rigging procedures.
- Understanding of classroom management and instructional techniques currently being utilized in a teaching and learning environment.
- Ability to effectively exchange information.
- Organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs of students.
- Proficiency and/or a willingness to embrace teaching and learning technologies to support the student learning experience.
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with other faculty and staff.
- Commitment to teaching excellence and to supporting and delivering a positive student learning experience.
Conditions of Offer
- When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
- Professional work credits in the areas of grip, lighting and rigging for film or television (screen credits of Key Grip or Gaffer in episodic television or screen credits of Key Grip or Gaffer in feature films with more than 30 shooting days).
- IATSE membership (in good standing).
- Fall protection and MEWP (mobile elevated work platform) certifications.
- Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
- Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.
