Salary Information

Hourly rate for an Apprentice will be calculated as a percentage of the Journeyperson rate based on their year of apprenticeship.

CG-29: $27.61/hour effective April 1, 2025:

1st Year: 60% ($16.57/hour)

2nd Year: 70% ($19.33/hour)

3rd Year: 80% ($22.09/hour)

4th Year: 90% ($24.85/hour)   

Duties and Responsibilities

Working under the Red Seal Truck and Transport Mechanic, the Apprentice will inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment used for the HEO, Mobile Crane and Commercial Driver programs at College of the North Atlantic, as well as providing support for light vehicles for buildings at Bay St. George and Headquarters campuses.

This position provides hands-on experience working on engines, brakes, steering, suspension, drive trains, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical components, including hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles.

The Apprentice will also use specialized tools and equipment, including hand tools, lifting and hoisting equipment, welding and cutting tools, hydraulic tools, and diagnostic electronics/computer equipment.

It is important to follow all established safety procedures and occupational health and safety standards at all times, including the proper use of personal protective equipment. The Apprentice will also perform other related duties as required to support shop operations and the effective maintenance and repair of vehicles.

 

Screening Criteria

Must be a registered apprentice with the Truck Transport Mechanic Program.

Conditions of Offer

  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided. 
  • Candidates must submit, with their resume, confirmation of completion of Truck Transport Block Level Training at a recognized post-secondary institution (transcript), and confirmation of apprentice log book, which will confirm their apprenticeship status. 
  • Candidates must provide a Class 5 driver's license.

Conditions of Acceptance

  • Willingness to accept a physically demanding position.
  • Acknowledges the requirement to climb onto or under large machinery, frequently working in tight spaces, and long hours on feet, standing, crouching, or kneeling for extended periods. 
  • Acknowledges the requirement to lift and carry heavy tools, equipment and parts, often 50 pounds or more.
