The College of the North Atlantic (CNA) is inviting experienced, safety-driven powerline professionals to join our instructional team and help shape the next generation of journeyperson powerline technicians.

This is your opportunity to transition from fieldwork to mentorship while sharing your expertise in installation, maintenance, and high-voltage safety with students preparing to earn their Red Seal certification and power the future of our communities.

The Opportunity: What You'll Do

As an Instructor in CNA's Powerline Technician program, you'll play a key role in preparing apprentices and future journeypersons for success in one of the province's most essential and respected trades. You'll bring your field experience to life in the classroom, lab, and training yard, where students gain the hands-on skills and confidence to perform safely and effectively on the job.

You will:

  • Teach and demonstrate how to:
    • Erect and maintain steel, wood, or concrete poles, towers, and guy wires
    • Install, maintain, and repair powerlines, cables, insulators, lightning arrestors, and switches
    • Repair or replace transformers and street lighting systems
    • Splice, solder, and insulate conductors
    • Diagnose faults in power distribution and transmission systems
  • Lead students through safe work practices, emphasizing electrical safety, fall protection, and the importance of teamwork and communication.
  • Use your real-world experience to connect course content to field applications, ensuring graduates are confident and job-ready.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and industry advisors to keep curriculum aligned with current technologies, safety standards, and industry regulations.
  • Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment that reflects the professionalism, safety culture, and respect essential to the trade.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with emerging tools, equipment, and training standards.
  • This is a campus-based, in-person position located at CNA's Seal Cove campus.

Why Join CNA?

  • Contribute directly to the growth and sustainability of Canada's energy and utilities sector.
  • Work with a collaborative team of educators and industry experts who share your passion for the trades and for mentoring the next generation.
  • Enjoy health insurance benefits, pension, and paid holidays, with 54 days of leave annually, including a two-week campus closure during the December break, as well as relocation assistance to help you settle into the community.
