Salary Information
Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, based on the candidate's education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reporting directly to the Associate Vice-President, International, this position is accountable for the effective development and implementation of counselling services to all international students, through both consultation and direct student support. These services are an integral part of the educational mission of the institution, as well as our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) mandate.
- The incumbent will support international recruitment activities including agent relations, aligning students with educational pathways, providing current information on Canadian entry requirements and pre-departure information:
- Support development projects in partner countries with a particular focus on accessibility for all students, particularly those who have experienced marginalization including persons with disabilities, women in traditionally male dominated industries, first generation students in higher learning, etc. This includes facilitating sessions on recruitment and retention, establishing student support services and assessment frameworks, developing best practices for assessment, and advising on best practices to support employment outcomes following education.
- Support campus-based Student Services through consultation and training. As part of the CNA Global team, the role will facilitate the College's international pre-arrival orientation. This role will also provide ongoing support to the Registrar's Office for evaluation of international entry requirements and eligibility.
- The International Guidance Counsellor will Chair the denied international applicants working group and may be required to work internationally on projects in a range of countries.
Screening Criteria
- Master's Degree in Education with a major in Educational Psychology or Counselling (or equivalent).
- Recent and relevant work experience.
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of current counselling interventions and strategies, and assessment tools and practices.
- Knowledge of international recruitment activities (activities including agent relations, aligning students with educational pathways, providing current information on Canadian entry requirements and pre-departure information).
- Knowledge of competitive procurement processes including proposal development, review, submission and interviewing.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exchange information effectively and deliver workshops.
- Ability to manage time and tasks.
- Ability to work as part of collaborative team while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a teaching environment.
- Ability and flexibility to work in countries from the Global south including but not limited to Tanzania, Kenya, China, Mongolia, Guyana, and South Africa.
