Salary Information

Duties and Responsibilities

The Community Engagement and Equity Coordinator is a key member of the Project Secretariat at the College of the North Atlantic (CNA), leading efforts to ensure the Green Buildings and Retrofits Project is inclusive, community-informed, and accessible across Atlantic Canada. This exciting opportunity focuses on building meaningful partnerships with Indigenous, rural, and equity-deserving communities while advancing equity, reconciliation, and culturally responsive practices throughout all aspects of the project.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping inclusive learning and workforce development initiatives by supporting community engagement, recruitment and outreach, curriculum development, faculty training, learner supports, and program evaluation. This position is ideal for a collaborative and relationship-focused professional who is passionate about social justice, anti-racism, and creating equitable opportunities within postsecondary education and community-based environments.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead community engagement activities that support inclusive, culturally responsive, and community-informed practices. 
  • Develop and implement equity-focused frameworks, strategies, and resources that promote accessibility, inclusion, reconciliation, and learner success. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous, rural, and equity-deserving communities, organizations, and partners across Atlantic Canada. 
  • Provide guidance on curriculum, instructional materials, and program delivery through an equity, accessibility, and cultural safety lens. 
  • Collaborate with colleges, project partners, and community stakeholders to identify and reduce barriers to learner participation and success. 
  • Support outreach and recruitment initiatives that increase participation from underrepresented and equity-deserving groups. 
  • Coordinate access to learner supports and services that enhance engagement, retention, and overall learner well-being. 
  • Support respectful Indigenous engagement and reconciliation-aligned practices, including culturally safe learning environments and Indigenous ways of knowing.
  • Develop and support evaluation and reporting processes to measure project impact, accessibility, participation, and learner outcomes. 
  • Facilitate or coordinate equity-centred training and professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and partners. 
  • Represent the project at community, sector, and stakeholder meetings, events, and collaborative initiatives. 
  • Contribute to project planning, reporting, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement activities in collaboration with Project Secretariat and partner organizations.
  • Other related duties as required.

Screening Criteria

  • Diploma in Community Development, Education, Social Work, Human Rights, or Public Policy, or a related field (equivalencies may be considered).
  • Experience in community engagement, equity and inclusion, reconciliation, or related work.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, rural communities, and/or equity-deserving populations.
  • Experience in workforce development, green industries, or sustainability-focused sectors (asset).

Assessment Criteria

  • Knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles and best practices.
  • Knowledge of barriers impacting participation and success for equity-deserving learners and approaches to support accessibility and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of program evaluation, reporting, and data collection practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse communities, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to coordinate projects, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, reconciliation, and culturally safe, respectful work with Indigenous, rural, and equity-deserving populations.
  • Initiative.
