STEPHENVILLE, NL – College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Digital Filmmaking students are excited to showcase their works on the big screen this week.

What’s dubbed “The Final Film Festival” will take place at the Stephenville Cinema (located on Carolina Avenue) on Thursday, June 23 from 7-9 p.m., and is open to the public.

The audience will be treated to the debut of short thesis films and documentaries produced by the 2022 Digital Filmmaking graduation class, along with their 11th annual intersession film The Pinch. Among the pieces to be shown are:
  • Mask of My Own Face – directed by Nick Duncan and starring Emma Hewitt. This short film is based on a document found in the SCP universe about an ancient sentient mask and its relationship with Dr. Sasha Williams, an SCP Foundation psychologist.
  • So Cold – directed by Ben Power. This is the official music video for St. John’sbased rapper Bruce M8.
  • Lady at Number 16 – directed by James Newhook and starring Ashley Dingwell, James Squires and Gavin J. Snow. This short film is based on a tale by Newfoundland and Labrador author and folklorist, Dale Jarvis. The film, set in the 1800s, tells the story of two visiting sailors and a mysterious lady in black.
  • The Pinch – written by Andrew Musgrave and starring Lauren Gillingham, Phoebe Gill and Michael Fenwick. The story follows a young university student who is bored at work and finds herself at a crossroads. One way leads to a prestigious, but expensive, master’s program in finance. The other leads straight back to her current deadend job, while a third path involves a charming, flirtatious stranger who recognizes her from school. A strange night to get robbed.

More information about this event can be found on Weebly and Facebook.

Admission to the event is based on personal donation. All proceeds will be used to support the production of the 2023 student thesis films.
