Stephenville, NL – College of the North Atlantic’s Digital Filmmaking Program (Bay St. George Campus) is proud to present the 2025 Final Film Festival, featuring the world premiere of the 14th annual intersession film Murder on the Newfie Bullet at 7:00 p.m., June 26, 2025, at the Stephenville Cinema.
Murder on the Newfie Bullet is a short comedy film set in 1948. As Newfoundland and Labrador hurtles toward its Confederation vote, a murder aboard the infamous train turns a routine journey into a chaotic political whodunit where every passenger has a motive, and the future of a nation might just be riding on a narrow gauge.
Students put their skills to great use on the set of the headline film.
“This is the culmination of an intense, seven-week sprint where our students poured their energy, creativity and technical skills into every frame,” said Keith Bonnell, Digital Filmmaking instructor. “Murder on the Newfie Bullet is not only a fun, fast-paced comedy, it is also a brilliant showcase of local talent and storytelling. And it’s just one of the films being screened at this year’s festival. We hope the community comes out to celebrate the incredible work these emerging filmmakers have achieved.”
Along with the intersession film, students will be screening their second-year final films, ranging from comedy to tragedy and everything in between. The final film festival is a yearly celebration of the talents and collaboration of graduates of the Digital Filmmaking program and future professionals of the province's growing film industry.
Bree Downey, second-year student, said, “I’m proud to be a part of these intersession films. I think the west coast of Newfoundland is a place with amazing people and amazing stories to tell and I think it’s important for us to tell these stories. I love bringing history to life.”
The intersession semester at the Digital Filmmaking program is a seven-week intensive semester where students in both their first- and second-year work together alongside their instructors and industry professionals to bring their training and talents to present a unique story.
