Students in College of the North Atlantic’s (CNA) Television and Film Technical Production program are learning from one of several instructors actively working at the highest levels of the industry.

Instructor Xavier Georges recently accepted a position with a Netflix Canada production filming in St. John’s, adding to an already impressive list of professional credits including CBC’s Republic of Doyle, Discovery and Netflix’s Frontier, Rogers’ Hudson & Rex and more. His founding of Sibelle Productions, the province’s first French-language production house, and ongoing work in major film and television productions ensures students are learning industry-standard, hands-on skills.

Georges tells students and aspiring filmmakers that big dreams require resilience, patience and effort.

“In this business, versatility will create opportunities, and passionate hard work will be your job security,” Georges said, noting he loves sharing his professional experiences in the classroom, so students gain a well-rounded understanding of the industry, and enter the workforce with the right skills.

Davida Smith, Dean of Academics, Applied Arts, and Tourism, says having instructors who are active in their fields gives students a major advantage.

“When instructors are working in the industries they teach, students benefit from up-to-date knowledge, meaningful mentorship, and real-world connections,” she explained. “Xavier’s success, experience, and guidance help students better understand what the industry truly looks like, and how to succeed in it.”
