College of the North Atlantic (CNA) and Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Newfoundland and Labrador (CPHR-NL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing a new partnership to support ongoing professional development for students in the Strategic Human Resource Management program.
Under the partnership, CNA Foundation is sponsoring membership in CPHR-NL for this year’s graduating class, covering membership fees as they enter the workforce. Future students will also gain CPHR-NL membership, benefiting through early professional engagement and industry connection.
“This new partnership expands the bridge between academic preparation and professional practice,” said Stephen Warren, CNA’s Dean of Business & IT. “By introducing students to the value of professional association membership, we are equipping them with tools, networks and confidence that will support their careers long after graduation.”
CPHR-NL represents human resources professionals across Newfoundland and Labrador, supporting best practices, professional growth and networking opportunities. CNA’s human resources programs are accredited through CPHR-NL.
Membership in the association provides access to professional development workshops and events, industry resources, legal and how-to tools, networking with peers and volunteer opportunities. Members can pursue the Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation and engage in continuous learning essential for today’s evolving workplaces.
“Partnering with CNA is an important investment in the future of the HR profession in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Allison Billard, President of CPHR-NL. “By working together, we can provide students with early access to professional resources, meaningful industry connections and the support they need to grow with confidence as they begin their careers in human resources.”
The MOU supports CNA’s focus on supporting student employability, professional engagement and lifelong learning. Early exposure to professional association membership can differentiate graduate resumes, create connections with industry leaders and build a foundation for career advancement.
Students are already seeing the benefits.
“A student membership with CPHR has been instrumental in building my network in Human Resources,” said James Bonnell. “I secured my current work placement through a connection I made at last year's AGM. The student membership is incredibly valuable.”
CPHR-NL and CNA look forward to building on this partnership to support emerging professionals in the province’s growing workforce and to contribute to stronger, better connected communities.
