Students looking to further their education at College of the North Atlantic (CNA) will have new program options to choose from for the fall semester.
The province’s public college system announced that it will be offering six programs at new locations throughout the province in order to meet identified regional and provincial labour force needs. These new programs will provide students with the ability to enter a workforce where additional career opportunities have been identified.
“We have significant waitlists in program areas that need to be addressed in order to meet the current and future demands of the province’s labour force,” said CNA President and CEO, Ann Marie Vaughan. “After considering the logistical issues around implementing these programs and analyzing labour demands, we determined which locations were best suited to house these offerings.”
The six programs that have been introduced are; Primary Care Paramedicine in Bay St. George, Personal Care Attendant in Baie Verte, Office Administration (Certificate) and Cook in Bonavista, Personal Care Attendant in Placentia, and Powerline Technician (Operating) in St. Anthony.
President Vaughan also noted that despite speculation around college operations being scaled back on a provincial level the college has placed an increased emphasis on preparing for the upcoming academic year, specifically in the Division of Academic & Learner Services.
“Our administrators and learner services staff have been very active these past few weeks in issuing over 2,500 acceptance letters to first year students interested in over 120 programs at the college. Over the coming weeks additional acceptances will be issued as we anticipate new students to exceed 3,000 for Summer/Fall program starts,” she says. “Now that we have that process underway, and the six new program offerings have been introduced, we are turning our attention to program waitlists to ensure additional opportunities for students are made available for the fall semester.”
