Seven teams from College of the North Atlantic and one team from College of the North Atlantic-Qatar will meet at Grand Falls-Windsor campus Jan. 17-18 to compete in the college’s annual Business Case Competition.

During the two-day event each team will be given a business case describing a company which is facing a specific problem. The teams have two-and-a-half hours to analyze it, make recommendations for how to solve the problem and develop an implementation plan based on their recommendations. The plan is then presented to a panel of judges and, after four rounds of competition, a winner is chosen.

This year’s event starts on Friday with two rounds of presentations. A third round of presentations will be held on Saturday morning with the top four teams competing in the finals on Saturday afternoon. The awards will be presented at a banquet later that evening.

Mary Vaughan, the college’s Dean of Business and Information Technology, says she is always impressed by the way students rise to every challenge during the two-day competition.

“The Business Case Competition is a yearly event that has a profound impact on the students, one that requires them to utilize their business skills and strategize to present the best solution to a panel of judges. The judges are all from industry and have volunteered their weekend to participate in this event while providing an authentic learning experience for the students,” she said.

“The learning that will occur and the relationships that will be formed during this competition will be priceless. I am so proud of the students for taking on this challenge and I wish them all the best. No matter where they place, the experience will be one that will advance them personally and professionally.”

Results from the completion will be released on Monday, Jan. 20.
