STEPHENVILLE, NL — The Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) is pleased to announce College of the North Atlantic (CNA) as an Academic Member.
CNA will begin delivering new programs in September 2023 that have been proactively developed in consultation with global industry leaders and experts for what is expected to be a robust demand for green energy-related labour demands and skillsets. CNA is committed to professional development, up-skilling, and re-skilling of the next generation of energy workers and technicians to work in Canada’s future hydrogen and fuel cell economy.
Specifically, a Wind Turbine Technician program will be offered at the college’s Bay St. George campus in Stephenville and a Hydrogen Technician program will be located at its Corner Brook campus – the site of a state-of-the-art technical power engineering lab.
This is new territory for CNA in its 60-year history as a post-secondary education and skilled training provider, and it is focused on ensuring that the programs are not only groundbreaking in their content, but they are responsive to industry requirements in the labour force. CNA is committed to supporting the development of this potential new industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as on the world stage where green energy is emerging as a means to secure future energy sources.
“We are delighted to become part of this national association and connect with other organizations that are also committed to a net-zero economy and supporting industry sectors by providing graduates with a solid foothold in future employment,” said Jason Rolls, CNA’s Vice President, Academic and Applied Research. “These new programs will be part of our new School of Sustainable Development, which is currently being established to steward new initiatives throughout the college network and minimize its environmental footprint, while at the same time, improve resource efficiencies.”
Ivette Vera-Perez, President and CEO of the CHFCA, says CHFCA is pleased to extend a warm welcome to College of the North Atlantic as its newest academic member.
“As a pioneer in hydrogen technician programs in Canada, CNA is playing a vital role in shaping the future of the hydrogen workforce. We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with them to further this important mission.”
