The Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technician part-time program is a combination of theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. MDR Technicians are an important part of the healthcare team ensuring equipment and instruments used for patient care, procedures and surgeries are cleaned and sterilized to industry standards.
OBJECTIVES
This program will:
  1. Provide theoretical training and technical skills necessary to work as in the field of MDR.
  2. Provide hands-on clinical training for participants in a health care setting that adheres to quality assurance standards.
  3. Provide training that aligns with safety best-practices, standards, and organizational procedures.
  4. Offer skills and training the help develop their professionalism for work in the field.

Admission Requirements


  • High School Graduation.
  • Completion of NC1747 Medical Terminology course or equivalent.
  • Certificate of Conduct – must be dated after June 9, 2025.
  • Vaccination Certification – forms will be given to applicant upon submission of application.
  • Confidentiality Oath – forms will be given to applicant upon submission of application.
  • Personal Health Information Act online training – details will be given upon submission of application.
English Requirements
The School of Health Sciences requires the following minimum English language proficiency scores for applicants whose first language is not English (IELTS Academic Test overall band score of 7.0, Speaking 7.0, Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5 and Writing 7.0).

Physical Demands
The role of a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician involves physical activity. In order to be successful in this career and in the clinical training of this program, students should be able to meet the following physical demands:
  • Constantly handles or moves medical supplies, equipment, instrument containers, and wraps up to 11 lbs; occasionally handles material up to 22 lb and pushes and pulls carts using medium force up to 44 lbs.
  • Constantly stands and walks for an extended period of time and lift, push, and pull trays; regularly works in awkward/cramped positions.
  • Occasionally sits when working on the computer.
  • Constantly uses fine finger or precision work on the computer and operates hand tools to manually clean instruments/equipment.
  • Constantly requires visual concentration and hand-eye coordination.
  • Visual acuity
  • Clear central vision to accurately perform detailed inspections.
  • Adequate peripheral vision to be aware of surroundings and ensure safety
