Overview

Port aux Basques Campus

College of the North Atlantic’s Port aux Basques Campus is a Recognized Training Organization (RTO) and an Authorized Exam Centre (AEC) with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). We deliver training and testing according to the regulations set out by NRCan and the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

**These courses adhere to the rules and regulations of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). NRCan manages the national program in Canada that certifies people who perform non-destructive testing (NDT).

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

Materials and Processes (M&P) (32-hours)
Pre-requisites : N/A
This course provides participants information on various industrial materials, metal forming, casting, welding, service conditions, and flaws. It also introduces the physical, electrical, mechanical, and magnetic properties of metals. This course provides participants training for Materials and Process in preparation for certification through NRCan NDTCB. This training will include theoretical concepts only.

Penetrant Testing 2 (PT2) (40-hours)
Pre-requisites: Materials and Processes, Mathematics
PT2 prepares participants to recognize various surface flaws in industrial components using penetrant inspection methods. This course provides participants theoretical and practical training for liquid penetrant inspection in preparation for national Non-Destructive Technician Certification through Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body (NDTCB).

Magnetic Testing 2 (MT2) (40-hours)
Pre-requisites: Materials and Processes, Mathematics
MT2 introduces Magnetic Testing methods which enable technicians to locate and identify surface and near surface defects. Course time is divided between theory and practical with a major focus on the practical portion. Students are provided with ample opportunity to familiarize with equipment used to detect defects and the theory involved. This course provides MT2 training to help prepare the candidate for Non-Destructive Technician Certification examinations delivered through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body (NDTCB).

Ultrasonic Testing 1 (UT1) (64-hours)
Pre-requisites: Materials and Processes, Mathematics
UT1 trains participants to use high frequency sound energy to conduct examinations and make measurements in materials to determine surface or internal flaws in materials. This course provides UT1 training to help prepare the candidate for Non-Destructive Technician Certification examinations delivered through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body (NDTCB).

Ultrasonic Testing 2 (UT2) (80-hours)
Pre-requisites: Materials and Processes, Mathematics, UT1
UT2 trains participants to use high frequency sound energy to conduct examinations and make measurements in materials to determine flaw locations. This course provides UT2 training to help prepare the candidate for Non-Destructive Technician Certification examinations delivered through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body (NDTCB).

Radiation Safety and Certified Exposure Device Operator Training (40-hours)
Pre-requisites : Mathematics
This training on radiation safety is for those using industrial x- and gamma radiation equipment. This course provides a basic understanding of radiation principles, safe working practices and regulations pertaining to the use of ionizing radiation. This course meets the training requirements of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission for those seeking their Certified Exposure Device Operator's (CEDO) certification. (PCP-09).

Radiographic Testing 1 (RT1) (40-hours)
Pre-requisites: Materials and Processes, Mathematics, Radiation Safety and Certified Exposure Device Operator
RT1 trains participants to send radioactive energy through a material enabling a negative (photo) to be produced of that material illustrating internal flaws or cracks. This course provides RT1 training to help prepare the candidate for Non-Destructive Technician Certification examinations delivered through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body (NDTCB).

Radiographic Testing 2 (RT2) (80-hours)
Pre-requisites: Materials and Processes, Mathematics, Radiation Safety and Certified Exposure Device Operator, RT1
RT2 trains participants to send radioactive energy through a material enabling a negative (photo) to be produced of that material illustrating internal flaws or cracks. Theory and practical components from Radiographic Testing 1 are expanded upon to enhance capabilities in this discipline. theoretical and practical training. This course provides RT2 training to help prepare the candidate for Non-Destructive Technician Certification examinations delivered through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) National Non-Destructive Testing Certification Body (NDTCB).
