In this seven (7) hour Arc Flash Awareness course, students will learn the damage electricity can cause to the human body and understand the basic principles of safety in normal and abnormal conditions.

The fourteen (14) hour Arc Flash Safety course focuses on workplace electrical safety and the identification of the electrical hazards of arc flash. Students will learn the damage electricity can cause to the human body and understand the basic principles of safety in normal and abnormal conditions. Additionally, topics related to transformers, substations, live and exposed lines, grounding, switching, clearance and lockout/tagout procedures, as well as work permits will be discussed.

In this 8-hour course, students will cover the principles of basic electricity and learn how to recognize potential electrical hazards. Students will also learn to distinguish the difference between voltage levels above and below 425v, develop an appreciation as to how power is distributed, and learn to recognize various types of power equipment and their function. In addition, students will learn about specific plant construction including standard construction and non-standard construction, and specific hazards associated with these. Finally, students will cover risk assessments and job hazards.

Electrical Safety Practices and Awareness for Disconnection/Reconnection of Electrical Services Training or Electrical Safety Workshop Training will review policies, overview of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Basic Electrical Safety Concepts and Pre-Job Hazard Assessment. The training will demonstrate Tools and Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment and Procedures a person must follow to work in a safe environment.

The Pole Top Rescue training course is primary concerned with safety. In this course, proper pole top rescue procedures are discussed. Potential hazards associated with climbing methods will include lectures, labs, discussion groups and practical application. Each participant in the program will be provided with a course manual and other applicable materials. Participants will perform a pole-top rescue on a simulated electrical contact victim using a life-size mannequin. The rescue will be performed entirely by the participant following the procedure contain in this course and completed within a 4.5 minute period. PREREQUISITES: NC1915 - Fall Protection.

Those involved in the high-risk area of working near power lines can prevent serious injury or death if they take the necessary precautions required to ensure their safety. Section 483 of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Regulations states that "a person shall not operate a mobile crane, boom truck or similar equipment without having first completed a safety training program". This course covers basic knowledge about electricity, electrical hazards, and safety measures when working in proximity to transition lines above and underground. It teaches participants what to do when equipment becomes charged with an electrical current and reviews all appropriate legislative requirements. This course will increase participants' awareness of the dangers with working near power lines and enhance their ability to prevent injury and accidents in the workplace. The course meets the Power Line Hazards Certification Training Standard for Workplace NL. (4 Hours)
