Strategic Planning Responsibilities
The development of the college's strategic plan has been led by the Board of Governors. The Board and the President developed an initial strategic framework in October 1999 and have continued to evolve the strategic direction of the college through facilitated strategic planning sessions. This Strategic Plan assimilates and presents a comprehensive view of the results of the strategic planning process.
By legislation, the Board of Governors is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction of the college, and the President is responsible for formulating the specific objectives.
Strategic Planning
CNA's 2026–2029 Strategic Plan provides direction for the College from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2029. The plan focuses on three priority areas: academic program flexibility; artificial intelligence in teaching and learning; and student retention.
Development of the plan began in 2025 through a comprehensive consultation process that engaged students, faculty, staff, government, and industry partners. Feedback from the CNA community, together with the Provincial Government's strategic directions, CNA's mandate, and available fiscal resources, helped shape the College's priorities for the three-year planning period.
As a Category One public body under Newfoundland and Labrador's Transparency and Accountability Act, CNA prepares its Strategic Plan in accordance with the requirements of the Act. The Board of Governors is accountable for the preparation of the plan and for achieving the goals and objectives established within it.
