Edward Mishaud has dedicated nearly two decades to advancing global cooperation, sustainable development, and community engagement through his work with the United Nations and other multilateral institutions. He is currently Senior Advisor with the UN Office at Geneva for its Beyond Lab initiative, where he fosters policy innovation and multistakeholder dialogue to address today’s most pressing sustainable development challenges.
From an early start in his native Newfoundland, where he was actively engaged in volunteer work, Edward’s commitment to community grew through his post-secondary years at the College of the North Atlantic (Stephenville campus), Cape Breton University and the University of King’s College in Halifax. His perspective on the world was further shaped by a Canada World Youth volunteer exchange in 1999–2000 that took him to rural Quebec and Benin, West Africa, deepening his interest and dedication to intercultural understanding and volunteer service.
Throughout his career, Edward has held key roles across six multilateral institutions. At the United Nations, he has contributed to the mandates and missions of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), an the World Health Organization (WHO). Prior to joining the UN Office at Geneva, he worked in Seoul, South Korea with the Green Climate Fund, helping to communicate its vision of mobilizing international financial resources for climate action. As an international civil servant, Edward has undertook missions across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
Edward began his professional journey as a budding journalist in Atlantic Canada, working first with his hometown weekly newspaper (The Georgian), followed by stints with CBC Radio in Corner Brook and CBC Television in Halifax.
He holds a Journalism Diploma from the College of the North Atlantic (1999), a Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies from Cape Breton University (2000), a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of King’s College (2002), and a Master of Science Degree in Politics and Communication from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2007). He has also completed executive programmes through the Geneva Graduate Institute and the UN System Staff College.
Edward resides in Geneva, Switzerland, with his husband, Michel.
