This eight (8) hour course covers the operation of an aerial work platform (AWP) (also commonly referred to as an elevating work platform). It covers the principles of training and operation of AWPs that are general in nature - meaning, they are common to all types of AWPs. These include how standards and regulations govern the operation of AWPs and the importance of following manufacturer's instructions for operation and maintenance of AWPs. The course looks at factors affecting the safe use of AWPs such as terrain, weather, stability, and other hazards associated with the operation of the aerial platform are also general topics for training and operation. A practical component is included to reinforce the knowledge covered and give confidence in the student's ability to safely operate an AWP. (8 Hours)

In this seven (7) hour Arc Flash Awareness course, students will learn the damage electricity can cause to the human body and understand the basic principles of safety in normal and abnormal conditions.

The fourteen (14) hour Arc Flash Safety course focuses on workplace electrical safety and the identification of the electrical hazards of arc flash. Students will learn the damage electricity can cause to the human body and understand the basic principles of safety in normal and abnormal conditions. Additionally, topics related to transformers, substations, live and exposed lines, grounding, switching, clearance and lockout/tagout procedures, as well as work permits will be discussed.

This intensive, hands-on course covers fundamental aspects of two-dimensional computer-aided drafting and design with the latest version of AutoCAD. Topics covered include file management, as well as the viewing, drawing, editing, and plotting of orthographic drawings. Students should have some background in AutoCAD. The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) teaches the basics of firearms safety and the laws related to firearms storage, handling and transportation. The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) is intended for all new restricted firearms users and those individuals who wish to acquire restricted firearms. Individuals wishing to acquire restricted firearms must have taken the full classroom delivery of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) and successfully passed all testing in that course.

This Food First NL workshop describes the process of home canning and bottling for the purpose of preserving food for personal use. You will learn about a wide variety of local foods that are available for canning in Newfoundland and Labrador and how to safely preserve them.

This 2-day (16 hr) confined space awareness training program is for any worker who works in a confined space, who has the potential to enter a confined space to attend to workers, or has a role in CSE, as required and prescribed by the Commission as outlined in Section 511 (3) of the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2009. The course consists of the theory related to confined space awareness, as well as the opportunity for the application of practical training in confined space systems and equipment in order to be knowledgeable and skilled in CSE.

This Food First NL workshop will teach you about foraging for and identifying edible wild plants. This workshop provides resources and tips to encourage new foragers to safely start their search for edible wild plants in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Emergency First Aid and CPR course is an external certification course which teaches participants the basics of lifesaving first aid and CPR skills for the workplace or home. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. (8 Hours)

This 1-day (8 hour) fall protection training program is required for any worker who is required use fall protection equipment as prescribed by the Commission, outlined in Section 139 of the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2009. The course consists of the theory related to fall protection systems and equipment, as well as the application of practical training in the use of fall protection systems and equipment. NOTE: In order to participate in this Recertification training program, the participant must present a copy of his/her valid 2 Day WHSCC Fall Protection certificate at the time of training.

The Firearms Safety - Hunter Education Safety course is an external certification course combining both courses. The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is an introductory course designed for novice and experienced firearms users. Firearms safety courses are intended to help reduce firearm-related incidents and increase safety for the user and the public. It offers training in safe operating, carrying, displaying and transporting firearms. This course is required for individuals wishing to act as certified Hunting Guides and is required for anyone interested in obtaining their Possession and Acquisition License for obtaining a non-restricted firearm. In the Hunter Education Safety course, participants will learn the basic concepts of wildlife conservation and management, hunting techniques and laws, hunter ethics and responsibility, outdoor safety and survival techniques. By completing both courses, participants meet the requirement to obtain provincial resident licenses to hunt with a firearm or bow. (18 Hours)

Food Safety covers competencies required to meet NL's "Food Premises Regulations" (effective May 1, 2020). These regulations require owners and operators of certain types of food premises to have at least one employee, with current food safety training, to be present in the food premises while it is in operation. In addition to stressing the importance of high standards of personal hygiene, and proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures for surfaces, equipment, and utensils, this course provides students with the knowledge and skills required to receive, store, handle, and prepare food safely in a food establishment. Upon completing this course, students will be prepared for work in the food industry. (8 Hours) Certificates provided by National Food Safety.

While forklifts offer a practical materials handling solution for many businesses, each year they continue to be associated with workplace deaths and injuries. Forklift incidents can be prevented, with the proper training and awareness. The eight (8) hour Forklift Operations and Safety course is comprised of a theoretical classroom session and a practical forklift driver training component giving the participant the necessary skills to safely operate a forklift.

The Hazardous Areas Equipment Recurrent two (2) day refresher course provides designated personnel with the theory and principles used to protect electrical equipment in hazardous areas and in the design of electrical systems for use in hazardous areas. It covers electrical equipment in a potentially explosive environment giving a better understanding of the relevant standards, the code rules and general engineering practices relevant to these hazardous area locations. The appropriate locally applicable standards, certifications, and rulings are referred to when making decisions regarding hazardous area equipment and practices. This 5-day course is designed to increase the competence, to nationally accepted levels, of personnel carrying out installations, inspections and maintenance of electrical apparatus in explosive gas atmospheres. It is mandatory for electrical personnel working in the offshore industry. 35 Hours Total (Course Hours - 28, Lab Hours - 07)

This course is designed to familiarize participants with the hazardous area requirements of Section 18 of the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code. It covers equipment and cable related portions of the 2021 Canadian electrical code, as well as the use of modular cable transits. (8 Hours)

The Hunter Education Safety course teaches participants basic concepts of wildlife conservation and management, techniques for hunting, hunter ethics and laws, and responsible outdoor safety and survival techniques. By completing the Hunter Education Safety course, in addition to the Canadian Firearms Safety course, participants meet the requirement to obtain provincial resident licenses to hunt with a firearm or bow. This course is similiar to Standard First Aid with CPR but also includes a Marine Supplement for marine-related topics. This course meets the Transport Canada training requirements for the Marine Basic First Aid program.

This course is designed to guide the student from the fundamentals of word building to complete mastery of a medical word building system. Correct spelling and pronunciation are emphasized. The course integrates the terms for anatomy, physiology and pathology of specified body systems in a manner that maximizes learning opportunities. Medical Terminology is a course that is utilized in several College of the North Atlantic (CNA) programs. Successful completion of NC1747 Medical Terminology Online may qualify you for an exemption should you decide to pursue one of these programs.

The purpose of the Level 1 OHS Committee, WHS Representative and Designate Certification Training is to provide committees, representatives, and designates with the knowledge needed to fulfill their duties and responsibilities under the OHS Act and Regulations by: - Monitoring OHS in the workplace. - Taking a proactive role and being and proactive champions of health safety in the workplace. - Working with employers and workers to develop and sustain a health and safety culture in the workplace. - Promoting health and safety awareness in the workplace. At times, situations may arise in the workplace that committees, representatives, and designates may not know how to address. This environmental awareness training program, based on Environment Canada's "Code of Practice for Elimination of Fluorocarbon Emissions in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems", deals with environmentally-correct equipment design, proper handling of refrigerants, and will prepare participants for complying with Federal and Provincial Regulations covering refrigeration and air condition systems. Those involved in the high-risk area of working near power lines can prevent serious injury or death if they take the necessary precautions required to ensure their safety. Section 483 of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Regulations states that "a person shall not operate a mobile crane, boom truck or similar equipment without having first completed a safety training program". This course covers basic knowledge about electricity, electrical hazards, and safety measures when working in proximity to transition lines above and underground. It teaches participants what to do when equipment becomes charged with an electrical current and reviews all appropriate legislative requirements. This course will increase participants' awareness of the dangers with working near power lines and enhance their ability to prevent injury and accidents in the workplace. The course meets the Power Line Hazards Certification Training Standard for Workplace NL. (4 Hours)

This 2 day course offers participants comprehensive training and knowledge of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills in order to provide care at an advanced level when responding to an emergency.

Standard First Aid Basic Life Support is Intended for Health Care Providers, this course includes all the skills in Standard First Aid as well as CPR Level HCP. (16 Hours)

Traffic Control Person (TCP) Level II training is critical for any worker who is responsible for creating traffic control plans, setting up the work area, or overseeing traffic control operations in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This course is designed to help participants understand how to use the traffic control manuals associated with their worksite, understand their responsibilities as a TCP Level II, and keep workers and motorists safe on the province's roadways.

Traffic Control Person (TCP) Level I training is critical for any worker who is involved in work which requires the control or modification of public roadways in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This course is designed to help workers understand the hazards and risks associated with traffic control, as well as understand the procedures and policies in place to keep them safe when performing traffic control work.

Canada's rules for transporting dangerous goods are called the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (i.e. TDG Regulations). Canada's TDG Regulations apply to everyone - even for goods such as gasoline, oxygen, and propane for personal use. This is critical health and safety training for anyone who may handle or transport dangerous goods according to the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act. (6 Hours)

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS 2015) This course is designed to give participants the knowledge and skills regarding Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). Referencing new WHMIS legislation, topics include WHMIS 2015, the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) system, hazardous product classification, pictograms, labels, safety data sheets (SDS) and requirements for workplace-specific training.
