College of the North Atlantic’s Marketing and Communications department was recognized with three MarCom Awards, an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding creative achievement by marketing and communication professionals.

College of the North Atlantic (CNA) was among numerous organizations honoured during the 2011 MarCom Awards, an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding creative achievement by marketing and communication professionals.

The competition received over   6,000 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and several other countries. CNA’s Marketing and Communications department was recognized for the three categories it entered.

The college nabbed a Platinum award – the MarCom Award’s top honour – for Currents, the college`s internal newsletter.  Only 18 per cent of entrants received this distinction. The department also took a gold statue for the college’s redesigned Facebook page which was launched earlier this year.

This is the second time CNA has entered and won awards from this competition. Roger Hulan, CNA’s Communications Specialist says it is an honour for the college to be recognized.

“The college’s Marketing and Communications department has been doing great work for some time now,” he says. “The profession is constantly changing and introducing new ways to communicate with stakeholders. We have a broad audience that we cater to and while we have been fortunate enough to be recognized for our efforts in the past, I think it’s an even bigger achievement to be acknowledged as we reinvent ourselves moving forward.”

The MarCom Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.

According to the judges, “the competition has grown to perhaps the largest of its kind in the world. A look at the winners shows a range in size from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.”

Winners were selected from over 200 categories in seven forms of media and communication efforts; Marketing, Publications, Marketing/Promotion, Public Service/Pro Bono, Creativity and Electronic/Interactive.

Corinne Dunne, the college’s vice-president of Development/College Advancement, oversees the college’s marketing efforts; she’s extremely proud of the department’s accomplishments.

“This is a wonderful acknowledgement by industry peers of the high calibre of talent and dedication of the college’s marketing and communications team. We are very appreciative of this recognition on their behalf and congratulate the team on their outstanding commitment to excellence.”

The Qatar Project Office of CNA also walked away with several awards from the competition. The department took three gold awards for the Living and Working in Qatar Pop Up Banners entered in the Ads/Banner/Sign category; the Qatar Project Office web pages for Website Interior; and Oil and Gas Magazine: When cultures connect, under the Magazine Placement category. The article also received an honourable mention in the Writing/Feature Article category.
