SMART programs at the College of the North Atlantic (CNA) are student success initiatives designed to build academic readiness, personal resilience, and professional leadership skills through virtual workshops and sessions.
Currently, the primary programs in this suite include:
- Start SMART
- Stay SMART
- Finish SMART
These programs are not available at all times. Offerings will be communicated when available to CNA students.
Start SMART is an introductory three-day online workshop aimed at students new to College of the North Atlantic that are preparing to begin their career programs.

Topics
Sessions typically cover establishing good habits, mindful time management, and mindfulness/meditation techniques.
Stay SMART is a more comprehensive series of virtual sessions available to currently enrolled students of College of the North Atlantic.

It consists of several modules facilitated by subject matter experts, often held during evening hours. -
Key Components
The program integrates three core pillars:- Learning Strategies: Time management, note-taking, and test-taking skills.
- Mindfulness: Strategies for resilience, gratitude, and self-compassion.
- Inclusion: Strategies focused on equity, diversity, and belonging.

Recognition
Students who complete all modules and required work are eligible to receive a digital badge in Leadership, which is recorded on their official transcript.
Finish SMART is a three-week interactive program designed to bridge the gap between post-secondary education and the workforce.

This program serves as the final stage of the "SMART Student Success Pathway," building on the foundational transitions and academic mindsets established in the Start SMART and Stay SMART modules. -
Key Components
The curriculum focuses on high-value employability skills identified by modern industry leaders. Students engage in hands-on activities to master:- Interpersonal Skills: Professional communication and customer service.
- Critical Thinking: Problem-solving, adaptability, and the responsible use of AI.
- Industry Recognition: Opportunities to earn co-curricular badges in Professional Conduct and Workplace Adaptability.

Career Readiness and Job Search
To ensure a successful transition into employment, the program provides practical training in the logistics of hiring. This includes expert guidance on networking, conducting effective job searches, crafting resumes and cover letters, and perfecting interview techniques.
