College of the North Atlantic-Qatar celebrates opening of Learning Commons

College of the North Atlantic - Qatar officially opened it's Learning Commons today. The facility will be home to a variety of student-success centered areas including an Advanced Writing Centre, a Math Help Centre, an Independent Learning Centre and a Career Counseling and Resource Centre.

Doha, Qatar - Dr. Latifa Al Houty, Vice-Chair, Executive Committee, was joined by Dr. Harald Jorch, President of College of the North Atlantic – Qatar, and Mr. Glenn Thorne, Vice President of Learning Resources, in officially opening the CNA-Q Learning Commons on October 28, 2008.

“This centre keeps CNA-Q at the forefront of student learning,” said Mr. Thorne, who acted as emcee for the event. “We believe that engaged students are more successful. This facility ensures that our students are engaged.”

The Learning Commons is home to a variety of student-success centered areas including an Advanced Writing Centre, a Math Help Centre, an Independent Learning Centre and a Career Counseling and Resource Centre.

Students also have access to private and group study rooms, as well as a computer lab and IT help desk.

“It is exciting to have all of these facilities under one roof,” said Dr. Al Houty. “This open and welcoming environment will ensure that all students have the tools to reach their potential.”

Third year Engineering Technology student Karim Bakhsh praised the Learning Commons as a place where students could meet and study together and have their questions answered by the various faculty members on hand.
