College of the North Atlantic (CNA) has earned accreditation for select program offerings in the areas of Health Sciences, and Business and Information Technology.

The following health sciences programs are accredited by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Conjoint Committee; Diagnostic Ultrasonography, Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Medical Radiography.

The CMA is a leader within the health care community. Conjoint accreditation is a process designed to ensure national standards for educational programs in designated health sciences professions.

Jane Gamberg, Dean of Health Sciences, believes that an accreditation in health sciences programs adds a certain confirmation to both students and employers.

“For Health Sciences training programs accreditation is critical. Quality health care is a public priority, and accreditation provides independent confirmation of a program’s compliance with uniform professional standards. Students can be assured that the program will equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain meaningful employment as a health care professional, and employers can be assured of candidates’ qualifications,” says Gamberg.

“Accreditation recognizes an educational program’s commitment to excellence. For Allied Health training programs accreditation is particularly important, as it ensures that the training will comply with the rigorous health standards set by local and national professional organizations.”

CNA is the first Canadian college to receive international accreditation of Office Administration and Business Administration/Business Management programs from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

ACBSP is an internationally recognized organization of business and degree granting educational institutions and select corporate members. Its mission is to establish, promote, and recognize educational practices that contribute to the continuous quality improvement of business education programs, teaching of business courses and student learning outcomes in colleges and universities throughout the world.

Accredited Information Technology programs include Programmer Analyst (Business) and Computer Systems and Networking. These programs have been accredited by the Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS). CIPS accreditation provides an indication for the public at large that the program is capable of producing graduates who can function at the required level of competence to enter industry.

Mary Vaughan, the college’s Dean of Business and Information Technology says having these programs accredited adds to the high standards of the college.

“Accreditation of Business and IT programs accentuates the quality of the college and its programs as well as our continuous commitment to high standards,” she says.

“Accreditation also reinforces our commitment to continuous improvement and provides our learners with increased program recognition from an external body that is recognized globally.”

Graduates of accredited programs leave the college with the skill set required by industry and the ability to incorporate these skills into the workplace.
