The WeldHER+ program is delivered in partnership with the CWB Welding Foundation. Based on the CWB curriculum, the program combines virtual and hands-on training in welding. At the conclusion of the program, students will have the opportunity to have their welds tested by CWB. Participants who complete the program may choose to further their training in welding, explore apprenticeship options, or pursue employment.
  • The WeldHER+ incorporates both virtual and hands-on learning.
  • It has been designed to break stereotypes and allow women to gain the skills and confidence to enter a rewarding, in-demand, and well-paid career.
  • For women looking for a new career or considering switching fields, welding is an especially promising industry.
  • The demand for welders is increasing. Welding, like many of the skilled trades, is facing a shortage that will continue. Welding can be an active job that offers flexible hours and travel opportunities.
  • The program also seeks to connect women with the ConnectHER mentorship program.

OBJECTIVES
This program will:
  1. Provide women the opportunity to learn about the welding trade.
  2. Provide women with information about sustainable career options that can increase their economic security.
  3. Provide women in remote locations, Indigenous communities, and other target groups with marketable skills.
  4. Increase supports for women to access and retain employment in welding and the skilled trades.

Admission Requirements

  1. Minimum of grade 10 certificate or equivalent (Grade 10 math and English completed)
  2. Be 18+ years old
  3. Legally entitled to work in Canada
  4. Self-identify as female who are interested in the welding trade
  5. All international applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements based on recognized tests of English language proficiency: CAEL - 60, TOEFL paper based - 550, TOEFL Internet based - 79, TOEFL computer based - 213 or equivalent, IELTS Academic Test overall band score of 6.0, Duolingo - 105 to 110, Pearson PTE Academic English Test – 53, or Language Cert Academic English Test – 65 or greater in each skill
