NC3340   Qualified Logging Professional

Course Overview:

The Qualified Logging Professional training will address the requirements of the most current SFI Forest Management and Fiber Sourcing Standards including an awareness of sustainable forestry principles and the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) program. It will also include best management practices, including streamside management and road construction and maintenance. Additionally, it will cover reforestation, invasive exotic plants and animals, forest resource conservation, aesthetics, and identification of special sites. Participants will also review their responsibilities under the Canadian Species at Risk Act, and other measures to protect wildlife habitat (e.g., Forests with Exceptional Conservation Value), develop an awareness of rare forested natural communities as identified by provincial or state agencies, or by other credible agencies. Logging safety and Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (COHS) regulations, forest product transportation issues, business management, public policy and outreach, and an overview of emerging technologies will also be discussed.
