NC3702   Introduction to Canadian Child Care

Course Overview:

Students will participate in seminars and a field placement to learn and apply basic knowledge and skills in the field of Early Childhood Education in Newfoundland and Labrador. In this first exposure to Canadian child care, the focus will be on students becoming familiar with the basic roles, responsibilities, and daily tasks of the Early Childhood Educator within play-based early learning and care programs. Students will develop a working knowledge of provincial legislation, policies, standards, and practices with regards to the health, safety and well-being of children attending regulated child care programs. Students will explore the foundational philosophies of quality early learning and care programs and apply them to all aspects of daily practice as an ECE, including interactions with children, program planning, daily routines, relationships with families, and collaboration with community. The importance of an inclusive, play-based, child-centered, developmentally appropriate, active learning approach will be reinforced. Students will develop a sense of competence and professionalism in their practice as aspiring Early Childhood Educators. (72 Hours)
