At College of the North Atlantic (CNA), International Student Development Officers (SDOs) serve as your primary non-academic support system, bridging the gap between your life as a student and the college administration. Their focus is to ensure your success by facilitating "out-of-the-classroom" services that range from financial guidance and career preparation to campus engagement and health insurance navigation.

Whether you are navigating the transition to a new culture or preparing to enter the Canadian workforce, SDOs are the dedicated liaisons who coordinate the essential resources you need to thrive personally and professionally.

Core SDO Support Services

  • Financial & Insurance Navigation:
    SDOs provide critical information on student loans, financial aid, and health insurance. This includes helping you navigate the transition from Guard Me to Green Shield and ensuring your MCP documentation is correctly filed.
  • Career & Employment Readiness
    To help you launch your career in Canada, SDOs coordinate:
    • Job search seminars and resume-building workshops.
    • The Peer Tutoring Program, where you can receive free help or get paid to tutor others.
    • Work-term placements and connecting you with potential industry employers.
  • Campus Life & Leadership:
    They act as advisors to the Student Representatives Council (SRC), helping you get involved in student government, social activities, and graduation planning.
  • Orientation & Transition:
    Beyond your first week, SDOs remain a "first-stop" for resolving non-academic issues, assisting with locker assignments, and explaining the Student Code of Conduct.
